Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our guided hiking experiences and trail adventures for active adults
Most of our state park hikes cover 4-6 miles at a leisurely pace (about 2 mph), taking 2-3 hours total including breaks. We deliberately keep it conversational so you can enjoy the scenery and chat with other hikers rather than rush through the trail. Our guides are experienced working with the 40-60 age group and know how to set a comfortable rhythm.
Not at all—we welcome everyone from complete beginners to experienced hikers. Our nature walk meetups are perfect if you're just getting started, and we have options at different difficulty levels. Just let us know your fitness level when you sign up, and we'll recommend the right hike for you.
We post new hiking events every two weeks, covering guided state park hikes, mountain day trips, and weekend backpacking excursions across different regions. Weekend backpacking trips run seasonally (spring through fall), and we announce those about 6-8 weeks in advance so you can plan ahead. Subscribe to our announcements to get early access before spots fill up.
Our guided hike fees include the guide, trail maps, and all leadership—you just need to bring yourself and basic gear (good shoes, water, snacks). For backpacking trips, we provide a detailed packing list and can recommend quality equipment rentals if you're new to overnight hiking. Some specialized trips include extras like geology talks or wildlife field guides at no extra charge.
Absolutely—that's a huge part of what we do. Our groups typically range from 8-15 people, which is the perfect size for genuine conversation on the trail. We intentionally slow the pace to allow for social interaction, and many hikers end up scheduling their own mid-week walks together after meeting on our trips.
We make calls 24 hours before each event based on forecasted conditions. Light rain rarely stops us (it's part of the adventure), but we'll reschedule if there's lightning, snow, or dangerous footing expected. You'll get an email notification and can either join a rescheduled date or get a full refund—no hassle.
